Simple Things

After a rather difficult week it was nice to give room for thoughts and enjoy the weekend. We were lucky to have a beautiful weather so I spent some time outdoors too. On Saturday I had a little picnic with H. Nice sandwiches, coffee and sweet cherries tasted good.

From our backyard I found a big bunch of nettles. Nettle (Urtica dioica) is often considered a weed but did you know it's full of vitamin C and iron? They only need to be boiled or steamed for a little. I added some salt, white pepper and cream. The nettle stew was served along fried perch, boiled potatoes, green salad and dry white wine. Simple but delicious!

Pretty Cowslips (Primula veris) are blooming under the apple trees in our garden. They are among the first spring flowers over here. I did cut just a few and placed them in a glass. For some reason the kitten likes to drink her water out of this glass, I have re-filled it a couple of times yesterday and today. Even though the glass is high she hasn't knocked it down. A handsome young lady.

I just adore her ability to ignore the outside world. She sleeps so contently without fears or doubts of any kind. I do wish I could do the same. How much simpler the life could be that way!

Hopefully you had an enjoyable weekend too. I wish a good new week to all of you!

What a beautiful kitten! Careful- our cat got a taste for drinking out of a glass and now he won't drink from anything else! It's very hard to explain to guests... :)

Oh, Minna, your kitty is so cute and clever!
I see, you're a passionate gardener too (like Lynn). Thank you so much for your tipp for my roses. I'm gonna try it the next time.
I have been thinking to pick some nettle for mulching, but never done it (they grow in a public place, so I feel a bit guilty if I do it). Maybe one day I'd gather all my guts and just do ;)

What a cute kitty you have! Mine also likes to drink water from just about anywhere except her water bowl. Hope this week is better than last!

Thanks for all your comments ladies!

MS Handbags & Spotted Sparrow, Yes I better be careful with her. I hope I didn't spoil her already ;)

Inger, our own cherry tree hasn't bloomed yet. Hopefully soon... good luck with yours!

Glassfaden/Devi, Just be careful not to pick the nettles anywhere too near a roadway :)

I know, Minna. One place I know is directly on the road, but if I pick nettles I'm going to the forest :) But at the moment I'm satisfied with my garden, so I won't mulch. Weeding is my meditation ;) Oh, and your tip has worked. No lice on my roses at the moment :) I've planted garlics underneath the roses, so I hope they'll stay away.
