Home Sweet Home

We have had some heavy snowing and it still continues. It's quite unusual that the snow has stayed on the ground for several days and not melted away yet. Better keep the fingers grossed now! I like to watch snowing trough the window, it's relaxing. Fireplace + a cup of tea or coffee + snow storm outside= sweet feeling

Yesterday we did set up the winter feeding for little birds. Need to remember to fill this up regularly. Maybe need to shovel snow from the roof once in a while... let's hope the birdies will enjoy themselves, too!

Viime päivät on sadellut rankasti lunta ja se jatkuu yhäkin. Onkin aika epätavallista, että lumi on pysynyt maassa sulamatta pois. Lumisateen katseleminen on minusta rauhoittavaa. Erityisesti yhtälö takkatuli + kuppi teetä tai kahvia + lumituisku ulkona saa aikaan mukavan tunteen.

Eilen laitoimme lintulaudan paikalleen. Sitä täytyy nyt muistaa täyttää säännöllisesti. Ehkä myös kolata lumi katolta silloin tällöin... toivottavasti pikkutintitkin viihtyvät!

Small Tasks

I had decided to take part on Get Eurofied promotion. I came up with the idea of making some 30 gift tags with my birdie and bear print (tags serve nicely as book marks, too), along with a gift certificate which entitles for free shipping once the purchase is made at my Etsy Shop by March 31, 2009.

These are the gift tags/book marks I got ready and shipped out today. It's such an enchanting feeling which you get once a little project is done: think, design, draw, scan, print, cut, sew, fold, assemble, write, stamp, send away - this is what it takes!

Oh, and one more thing. Last night we got the first snow.

Olin päättänyt osallistua Get Eurofied -promootioon. Mietinnän tuloksena valmistin 30 pakettikorttia lintu- ja karhuprintilläni (kortit toimivat hyvin myös kirjanmerkkinä). Paketissa on mukana lahjakortti joka oikeuttaa ilmaiseen postitukseen, kun ostos on tehty Etsy-kaupastani 31.3.2009 mennessä.

Onpa ilahduttava tunne saada pieni projekti päätökseen: ajattele, suunnittele, piirrä, skannaa, tulosta, leikkaa, ompele, taita, kokoa, kirjoita, leimaa, lähetä maailmalle - tätä se vaatii!

Ai niin, ja viime yönä satoi ensilumi.

Little inspiration

It's been a gray and stormy week here up north. Yesterday was an exception; the skyline was pretty with the string of sunlight. It gave me a chance to take some pictures and many nice things came to my mind.

Once I saw the glass jar with buttons in my studio I immediately got memories from childhood; how wonderful it was to find such treasures from Mom's sewing supply kit. I loved to explore buttons and chose my favorites thinking they're little gems.

As a result of this inspiration I made a small series of fancy pouches. I'd like to call them my little gems. Some pouches are already in my shop ...

Tämä viikko on ollut harmaa ja myrskyinen. Eilinen oli poikkeus, taivaanrannasta pilkotti kaunis valo. Sen ansiosta sain tilaisuuden kuvata hieman ja monia mukavia asioita tuli mieleeni.

Huomasin työhuoneessani lasipurkin jossa oli nappeja. Ne toivat mieleeni lapsuusajan muistoja. Muistin kuinka nappipurkin löytäminen äidin ompelutarvikkeiden joukosta tuntui kuin olisi löytänyt aarteen, napit olivat kuin pieniä jalokiviä.

Tämän inspiraation tuloksena tein muutamia juhlavia pussukoita, kuin pieniä jalokiviä. Niitä on jo muutamia saatavilla kaupastani.

Another fine thing today

I had to take a picture of this pretty package I received this week! It's a little cute piece of art I bought from prettylittlethieves. It's a Christmas present for my friend so I cannot reveal more yet ( I hope my friend is not going to read my blog before Christmas - oh no!)

Tällä viikolla sain postitse suloisen pienen paketin. Siellä on sisällä pieni pala taidetta. Voin paljastaa sisällön vasta joulun jälkeen koska tämä on lahja ystävälleni. Toivottavasti hän ei eksy blogiini ennen aikojaan, oops!

Feeling content...

Today I couldn't get up early. Usually this makes me somewhat angry because it means I need to work longer in the evening. But today I felt fine and seeing the soft sun light gave me inspiration to take some pictures. As the days are getting shorter now, each sunny day is highly appreciated in these latitudes.

This card is Finnish artist Martta Wendelin's (1893-1986) illustration. She was well known for her postcards and children's book illustrations. I love them!

Joskus herääminen on vaikeaa, tänään oli sellainen päivä. Yleensä tämä saa minut jossain määrin äreäksi sillä se tarkoittaa, että joudun tekemään hommia myöhään iltaan asti. Pehmeä myöhäisen syksyn valo teki kuitenkin onnelliseksi. Samoin kuin suloisesti nokosilla oleva metsän henki Martta Wendelinin kortissa.
